Kayla Gedeon is a proud Mi'kmaq woman from Gesgapegiag First Nation, a devoted mother of three, and a passionate advocate for Indigenous youth and community wellness. For more than a decade, she has dedicated her career to the Walgwan Centre, where she has worked alongside First Nations youth, families and communities supporting them on their healing journeys through culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and strength-based approaches.
Kayla pursued post-secondary education at McMaster University and Algonquin College, specializing in Addictions and Mental Health. She is currently continuing her educational journey by completing the Wabanaki Bachelor of Education program at the University of New Brunswick, further strengthening her ability to support youth through culturally relevant education and leadership.
As a Certified Indigenous Addictions Specialist III through the Indigenous Certification Board of Canada, Kayla brings extensive knowledge and experience in Indigenous mental wellness, addictions, and holistic care. She believes that every young person possesses inherent strengths and that healing is nurtured through meaningful relationships, cultural identity, and connection to community.
Deeply rooted in her Mi'kmaq values, Kayla sincerely believes that culture is the foundation of connection, healing, and growth. She is committed to creating safe, empowering spaces where Indigenous youth and families can rediscover their identities, build resilience, and develop a strong sense of belonging and purpose. Through her work, she strives to inspire hope while honouring the traditions, teachings, and strengths that have sustained Indigenous communities for generations.
